Starting a new job can be a daunting, nervous and anxious experience. I decided to add extra worry to my Sunday night by imagining the different scenarios that could happen such as my alarm not going off on time, that my train will be cancelled, or I will get lost trying to find the office in Glasgow. The nerves and worry quickly evaporated once I had arrived at the office and the whole team were very welcoming and supportive from the first moment. At the end of my first day on the train back to Edinburgh, I thought why did I waste my Sunday evening worrying. I was full of new information and excitement for the weeks ahead.
The supportive nature of the team continued throughout my first week in the role, and I had the opportunity to meet most in person which was a bonus. Everyone in the team were willing to take the time to go over their roles, clients and the work that they were currently involved in. These catch ups were great as they allowed me to get to know everyone on a one-to-one basis. I also had the opportunity to ask lots of questions and cheekily ask for advice for someone starting in a HR Assistant role. I really valued this time, as this was my first role within HR and not was sure what to expect in the first week.
I had just finished my Masters in Human Resource Management from Napier University and I was looking for the first step into my next career. I was interested in the role for the variety it brings, and it would give me the opportunity to be involved in different areas within HR. I was advised that this is the perfect role to start and continue my learning and development. I believe that Gravitate HR is a great place to start this journey and I love the fact that so many of the team have been with the company for such a long time. I have already been exposed to different areas and even in my first week I have been given tasks to complete. On my first day, I was told by colleagues and witnessed first-hand how supportive everyone is within Gravitate HR and this has continued throughout the week and beyond. I look forward to continuing my learning and working with such a lovely team of experts.
