In a previous blog, Christine Medland shared her reflections on returning to the workforce after time out raising her son and relocating to Scotland. Since joining Gravitate HR as an HR Assistant, she has embraced consultancy life, rebuilt her professional momentum and recently celebrated a well-deserved promotion to HR Consultant – a progression we’re proud to highlight as she continues to grow with the team. Last year, I wrote about returning to the workforce after time out raising our son and relocating to Scotland. I stepped back into professional life with excitement, determination and a dash of self-doubt.
Today, I’m proud to be writing this as an HR Consultant at Gravitate HR.
When I joined the team in September 2024 as an HR Assistant, my focus was on rebuilding momentum, immersing myself in the work and learning the rhythm of consultancy. What started as a return has become real progression.
What I’ve Loved Most So Far
With a strong background in recruitment, I’ve supported the full recruitment lifecycle across a range of client campaigns, from initial brief through to successful hire and beyond. Helping organisations move from uncertainty to clarity is deeply rewarding, particularly when it results in the right person joining a team at the right time.
I care deeply about the experience on both sides of that process. Clear communication, thoughtful structure and respect for candidates and clients sit at the heart of how I work. Recruitment can feel high stakes for everyone involved, so creating a process that feels organised, transparent and human is something I genuinely value.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of consultancy is seeing clients embed the work we have developed together. When processes land well and clients feel confident in the support they are receiving, it reinforces the real impact thoughtful, considered HR can have.
Looking Ahead
While recruitment remains a strength, I’m especially excited about broadening my experience across the full HR spectrum. Employee Relations is an area I’m keen to further develop, supporting clients as they navigate complex conversations with clarity and fairness. I look forward to continuing to grow with curiosity and confidence, deepening my experience and adding meaningful impact for the clients I support.
Outside of work, I’m happiest being a mum and spending time with my wee family and wonderful friends. That balance keeps everything in perspective and reminds me why the people side of HR matters so much.
